STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE “HOVATH'S” COSTUME

Record summary

During the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode “The Storyteller” a young Bajoran man named “Hovath” (Laurence Monoson) was set to become the “Sirah” of his village until “Miles O'Brian” (Colm Meany) accidentally found himself being the heir of the title. The “Sirah” is the appointed wise man that leads the people in a ceremony designed to thwart a powerful storm derived of the villagers’ emotions, the “Dal’Roc”. “Hovath” had been the previous “Sirah’s” apprentice until the arrival of “O’Brian” but was able to prove himself to the villagers and assume the mantle of the position. This is “Hovath’s” costume and while many of the Bajorans in the episode wore similar items, this one stands out. The costume is comprised of burnt orange colored, approximately 15-gauge corduroy with intermittent light splotches, cream-colored elastic stirrups, and buttons in the waist for suspenders. The shirt is also corduroy, approximately 9 gauge, darker orange than the pants, it zips up the front and clasps at the top. The vest is slightly wood patterned and opens about half way down the chest, it zips up the front. “Hovath” also wore a brightly colored sleeveless robe that hung from his shoulder to about half way down his thighs; it was patterned in a Southwest style horizontally and features a clasp halfway down. This very becoming costume has sewn in Deep Space Nine tags inscribed ‘Laurence Monoson’.
